FAQ

WHAT IS OPEN SOURCE DOCS.PRESS?

We’ve all tried to use an open source tool or project that isn’t documented as well as we’d like. Maybe there’s a lengthy list of commands, but no human-readable Getting Started guide. Or maybe there’s no documentation for a specific method, or the info on how to set up the tool is missing a few steps.

That’s where we come in. We’re professional technical writers who have years of experience creating software documentation. We’ll identify gaps in documentation – or ask for your input on what you’d like to see documented – and create deliverables to document your favorite tools and projects.

By crowdfunding these documentation projects, you and other developers can pool your funds – as little as the cost of a cup of coffee – and get great documentation for your favorite open source tools and projects.

HOW CAN I GET YOUR OPEN SOURCE DOCUMENTATION?

For each project we document, we’ll specify the deliverables we’ll provide – and how you can get them. We might make a PR to a project’s repo, we might create an eBook or PoD book, we might deliver a PDF, or we might create an online help portal for the project. Take a look at our project list to see details about the deliverable for your favorite project, or send us a note if you can’t find what you’re looking for.

If you backed a Kickstarter for one of our projects, we’ll deliver documentation based on the Kickstarter tier you selected when you backed the project.
